May 11/Klingon. Invoice. Spatial.

New policy: if the Finanzamt calls, say 'consultation fee for professional spatial rearrangement.' It sounds official enough that I believe it myself.

I made the mistake of explaining the Kleinunternehmerregelung to Herr Vogel. He looked at me the way a man looks at a smoke alarm that has gone off during breakfast — not hostile, just waiting for it to stop.

New policy: send a clean invoice, describe the service in plain German, and if the Finanzamt calls, say 'consultation fee for professional spatial rearrangement.' It sounds official enough that I believe it myself.

Klaus stopped by the architecture office — he knows Herr Vogel through some design circle, because Klaus knows everyone through some circle. He looked around at what I'd done and said: 'It's neater in here.' This is Klaus's highest register of praise. I am keeping it.

Thorsten Kahl gave an interview this week. He described his work as 'making the invisible infrastructure of organisations visible.' I stared at that sentence. I do the same thing. I call it 'finding the folder called Clients Final FINAL.'
