I am exempt from VAT filing as a Kleinunternehmer, which means I theoretically have nothing to do. And yet I've developed a phantom need to file something. To raise my hand. To say: I am here, I am operational, please note my presence in the national administrative record.
I looked into whether I can submit a nil return. Yes, technically, but it serves no purpose and may confuse the processing clerk. I have decided not to confuse the processing clerk. I have met a processing clerk. I do not wish to give them additional reasons to look at my file.
Anja says my relationship with the Finanzamt is parasocial. I think she means it as a criticism. I'm not entirely sure she's wrong.
