I woke at 3am and checked my email signature on my phone. No Impressum. The Impressum is now live. I feel simultaneously safer and more exposed.
— from the desk, with coffee ☕I had a nightmare that the Finanzamt raided the apartment because I hadn't included a mandatory privacy disclaimer in my email signature.
In the dream, a man very similar to Herr Schmidt — same glasses, same expression of industrialised disappointment — arrived with a clipboard and asked to see my Impressum. I didn't have one. He wrote something down. He did not look surprised.
I woke at 3am and checked my email signature on my phone. No Impressum. I lay awake for an hour composing one mentally, fell asleep, got up at six, and wrote it. It is legally adequate and aesthetically catastrophic.
Anja said I was a regulatory hypochondriac. She's right, but she doesn't deal with the German Imprint requirements, which are essentially legal tripwires for people who just want to send emails and find themselves reading case law at 3am.
The Impressum is live. I feel simultaneously safer and more exposed. This appears to be the permanent emotional condition of running a German business.
